Where the numbers land
Blade 10 inches, handle 5 inches, 15 inches overall, hardened to 54–56 HRC. That is a deliberately soft-ish heat treat for a blade this long: it gives up a little edge retention and buys back toughness, which is the right trade when the knife is long enough to be swung and pried with. It sharpens quickly on a stone and it does not chip.
This is the biggest fixed blade in the seax rack short of the 17-inch one. It is a two-hand-if-you-want-to knife, not a pocket tool.
The blade is finished in three bands
Look along the flat and you will see three: a narrow bright polished strip running the spine, a wide band of black forge scale through the middle where the steel was left as it came off the anvil, and a second wide polished bevel down to the cutting edge. The two bright bands run straight and parallel. It is a working finish rather than a mirror polish, so the black band varies from knife to knife.
The spine runs level out of the handle and then falls in one long straight angled clip to the point. The edge below it is dead straight, with no belly and no recurve.
Full tang, rosewood scales
The blade and the handle core are one piece of steel from the point to the butt, with the rosewood fitted as two slab scales and pinned through. The steel shows as a thin line all the way around the wood, and the butt is cut off at a slant with a lanyard hole drilled through it.
The underside is not a plain stick. There is a deep rounded scallop cut right behind the blade for the index finger and a second shallower one behind that, so the hand indexes in the same place every time. Rosewood is dense and oily and takes a satin finish rather than a gloss; grain and tone vary from piece to piece, so your handle will not match the photographs exactly.
The sheath is a scout carry
Leather, riveted right around the outline, with two wide straps wrapped across the body and a short retention tab closed by a single snap. Because the straps wrap rather than hang, it can be worn horizontally across the small of the back as well as vertically on the hip, on either side.
Make it yours
The blade flat and the rosewood handle can both be engraved to order. A name, a date, or a short line in runes. Engraving is hand-etched and adds a few days to dispatch.

How big is this seax?
The blade is 10 inches (254 mm) and the handle is 5 inches (127 mm), so the knife measures 15 inches (381 mm) overall.
What steel is the blade, and how hard is it?
Hand-forged high-carbon steel, hardened to 54 to 56 HRC. It is not stainless, so it takes a fine edge and sharpens easily on an ordinary stone, but it will spot if left wet and will darken to a patina over time.
What does full tang mean here?
The blade and the handle core are one continuous piece of steel running from the point to the butt, with the rosewood scales pinned onto it. There is no join to work loose, which matters more on a blade this long.
How does the sheath carry?
It is a leather scout sheath, riveted around the outline, with two wide straps wrapped across the body and a snap retention tab. The wrapped straps let it be worn horizontally or vertically, on either side.
Can it be engraved?
Yes. Both the blade flat and the rosewood handle can be engraved to order, hand-etched. Engraving adds a few days to dispatch.
