This is the long end of the seax family
Seax is a family, not a single knife, and it runs from a four-inch belt tool up to something you would call a sword in any other language. At 18 inches of blade on a 24-inch overall length, this one sits at the far end of that range. It is a two-hands-if-you-want-to piece, and it is closer in feel to a short sword than to the bushcraft seaxes elsewhere in the rack.
We say that plainly because the size is the whole point of the listing, and because a buyer expecting a belt knife will be surprised when the box arrives.
The blade
Single-edged, broad, with a narrow fuller running most of its length close to the back. The back is straight; the edge runs straight and then rises in one long gradual clip to the point. A fuller is not decoration: it takes weight out of the middle of a long blade without taking away stiffness, which is what keeps a piece this size from feeling dead in the hand.
The finish is a bright satin polish across the whole face rather than a forge-scaled surface. The steel is 1075 high carbon, so it is not stainless: it will spot if it is left wet, and it will darken to a patina with handling. Wipe it dry, keep a film of oil on it, and it looks after itself.
The hilt
A straight flat steel crossguard, a grip wrapped in leather over a wood core with a single brass rivet set through it near the guard, and a solid steel pommel in the shape Viking-age smiths used: a wide flat base with a faceted crest above it. Nothing is glued on for looks, and there is no wire, no bone and no gemwork.
The leather is a deep oxblood, dark enough that it reads almost black in low light and warms up in the sun. It is the same hide as the scabbard.
The scabbard
Leather, hand-stitched down one edge and around the point in black thread, with two wide belt straps crossing the body so it can be slung rather than hung off a single loop. No metal throat, no buckle, no snap. The stitching is the closure and the structure both.
Make it yours
The blade flat and the scabbard can both be engraved to order. A name, a date, or a short line in runes. Engraving is done by laser and adds a few days to dispatch.

Jedes Teil hat seinen Platz verdient
Where the numbers land: 18 inches of blade on a 24-inch langseax, a narrow fuller taking weight out of the middle without taking away stiffness, and a 6-inch leather-wrapped grip between a flat steel guard and a solid steel pommel.

How big is this langseax?
The blade is 18 inches (457 mm) and the grip is 6 inches (152 mm), so it measures 24 inches (610 mm) overall. That is short-sword territory rather than knife territory.
Is a langseax a knife or a sword?
Both names get used. Seax covers the whole family from small belt knives upward, and the long end of it overlaps with what most people would simply call a sword. At 18 inches of blade this piece belongs to that long end.
What steel is the blade?
Hand-forged 1075 high-carbon steel with a satin polished finish. It is not stainless, so it takes a fine edge and sharpens easily, but it will spot if left wet and will darken to a patina over time.
What is the grip made of?
A wood core wrapped in leather, fixed with a single brass rivet near the crossguard, between a flat steel guard and a solid steel pommel.
What sheath is included?
A hand-stitched leather scabbard, sewn down one edge and around the point in black thread, with two wide belt straps crossing the body.
