QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions
What is the Aarhus mask?
A carved face on a Viking Age runestone found at Aarhus in Denmark, now in the Moesgaard Museum. The stone is usually dated to the early 11th century and the mask is one of the best known faces in Norse art.
Whose face is it?
Nobody knows. It has been read as a protective mask and, less securely, as Odin. The runestone's own inscription is a memorial and does not name the face, so we do not claim an identity for it.
How heavy is it?
Approximately 11 g in 925 sterling silver.
Does it come with a chain?
This listing is for the pendant on its own. You can pair it with any of our Viking chains and necklaces.
