A word of honesty about the Helm of Awe: the name ægishjálmr appears in Old Norse poetry, where the dragon Fáfnir claims it made him terrifying to all — but the eight-armed stave design worn today comes from much later Icelandic manuscripts, not Viking-Age finds. It has since become one of the best-loved symbols of protection and courage in Norse-inspired design. See more Viking cloaks, or explore the full story in our Norse symbol library.
