Is the Vegvisir a real Viking symbol?
Not as it is drawn today. The familiar eight armed Vegvisir comes from Icelandic manuscripts, most famously the Huld manuscript of 1860, roughly 800 years after the Viking Age. We sell it as later Icelandic stave material, not a Viking Age find.
What is the Vegvisir supposed to do?
The Huld manuscript says that a person carrying it will not lose their way in bad weather, even on unfamiliar ground. That is a 19th century Icelandic claim, recorded long after the Viking Age.
