The Helm of Awe (Ægishjálmur) is a protection stave known from later Icelandic manuscripts — the eight-armed design is not a Viking-Age archaeological find, though a "helm of awe" is mentioned in the old poems. We say so plainly, because honesty about the sources matters to us. Browse more Viking hooded blankets, or read the full story of the stave in Norse symbols and their meanings.
